Si l’histoire est bien réelle, elle commence comme un conte de fées : il y a plus de cent ans, Lorenz, Hans et Adolf Wagner vivent sur les bords de la rivière Ilm, dans la commune bavaroise de Jetzendorf. Formés à la cordonnerie par leur père, les trois frères marquent l’histoire de la chaussure alpine en créant les marques LOWA, Hanwag et Hochland.

Lorsque l’ancien apprenti Josef Lederer (surnommé « Sepp ») fait son retour chez LOWA, il y règne un mélange de joie et de tristesse. Déjà en difficulté financière, l’entreprise doit également faire face au décès de son fondateur et directeur Lorenz Wagner. Pendant la même période, Sepp et Berta Wagner tombent amoureux et célèbrent leur mariage. Ils prennent les rênes de l’entreprise avec le frère de Berta, Josef Wagner : une nouvelle génération qui se donne pour mission de sauver l’entreprise et de l’établir comme une marque de renommée internationale.

Les années 1992 et 1993 marquent un tournant dans l’histoire de LOWA. Josef Lederer cède l’entreprise à la société italienne Tecnica, et Werner Riethmann devient directeur général et associé de LOWA.
