LOWA TRAIL Racers Team Markus Rock

To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did!

The fact that Markus Rock is now fully living out his passion for trail running on the local trails in the Franconian Jura is due to a change of profession and location. After Markus had pursued competitive ski mountaineering in the German Armed Forces until 2022, he returned to his native Franconia to train as an agricultural economist. Since then, he has been working on a farm in Mosenberg near Neuhaus an der Pegnitz. With his new old place of residence, his focus is also on trail running.

A good decision, as it turns out… Because the ambitious athlete can already look back on numerous successes in such a short time. At the Chiemgau Trail Run in 2021, he landed on the podium in third place, and at the Ratschings Mountain Trail in South Tyrol in 2022, he won in his age group. However, he is above all proud of his victory at the « Wiesent Challenge » 2022 in Franconian Switzerland which was a great result on his home trails.

Trail running fascinates Markus Rock so much because of its simplicity: « All you need is yourself and good shoes. I can set out on the trails with simple equipment, savouring the connection to nature and the mountains. For me, this is the perfect way to focus on the essential things of life. »

When Rock talks about good trail running shoes, the trail runner means above all his favorite shoe, the LOWA CITUX. « Since I am currently still on the shorter to medium-length distances, this shoe with its speed, lightness and minimalism is absolutely made for me, » describes Markus Rock his favorite model among the LOWA trail running shoes.

Markus Rock,
What does your perfect day look like?

« My favourite thing is when there’s a lot of work at work, the sport works out and there’s still time for friends and sport. Ideally, I can fit it all in. But the main thing is that there is always something going on – I love action and excitement. »

What does happiness mean to you?

« In short, happiness for me means being healthy and having »my people" around me."

What are you particularly grateful for?

« For what my wife, family and friends often go along with so that I can live my »lifestyle" the way I currently do."

Which tour or running route can you recommend?

« I always enjoy the tour of the Wildspitze – both in summer and in winter. Apart from that, I like to be out and about everywhere and can hardly tell the difference. My favourite place to go running is the »Eichkatzlweg" right outside our front door. That’s Franconian trail running par excellence!"
